March 28, 2025

Crysta Swarts-Gillison Named Middle School Director

We are thrilled to announce that Crysta Swarts-Gillison has been appointed as our new Middle School Director. Crysta has been serving as the Middle School Assistant Director for the past few months, bringing dedication, insight, and compassion to the role.

Originally from Virginia (and West Virginia), Crysta has made the West Coast her home. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from James Madison University and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Washington. Additionally, she holds a certificate in Education in Environment & Community and has studied with the International Institute of Restorative Practices.

Crysta’s career is deeply rooted in supporting and guiding teenagers, with experience spanning adventure-based summer camps, boarding school residence halls, and English classrooms.  Already a skilled and capable leader, Crysta is eager to continue growing in her role. This summer, she will attend the Summer Institute Workshop: Leading the Effective Middle School, presented by Independent School Management, further deepening her expertise and bringing new strategies and insights back to CWA. Her passion for student life and her commitment to fostering meaningful connections will be invaluable as she leads our Middle School community.
