Crysta joined Charles Wright Academy in 2021 and brings extensive experience working with adolescents in a variety of educational roles. Before becoming Middle School Director, she served as Director of International Programs, Director of Student Life for the Upper School, and Middle School Humanities Teacher, also leading the 7/8 Team and coordinating humanities curriculum.

Her career began on twin paths as a Dorm Parent and English teacher at Annie Wright Schools, alongside directing adventure summer camps. She then worked in independent schools across the West, including as Dean of Students at Riverstone International School in Boise, Idaho. Crysta has been dedicated to adolescent education since 2004.

Originally from Parkersburg, West Virginia, Crysta earned her B.A. in English and Secondary Education from James Madison University and her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Washington. She also holds a certificate in Education in Environment and Community.

She has completed Restorative Practices training through the International Institute for Restorative Practices, attended NWAIS conferences for over five years (including as a presenter), and engaged in antibias and justice training with The People’s Conference and the Barnraisers cohort.

Crysta believes Middle School can be a delightful and transformative time. “I love working with students, families, and teachers who see the value in young adolescents,” she says. “It’s a privilege to laugh, learn, and grow alongside our students and to partner with families during this exciting stage of life.”
