CWA Students Attend Student Diversity Leadership Conference
December 13, 2024
Charles Wright Academy champions a school culture where everyone knows they belong. As part of this work, six of our Upper School Students attended the Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC), hosted by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). The conference fostered self-reflection, allyship formation, and community building among students. The annual national conference attracts over 8,000 student leaders. During the conference, students engage in diverse activities facilitated by trained adult and peer leaders. Our students developed cross-cultural communication through large group sessions that promote social justice through verbal exchange and the arts. In addition, participating in foundational workshops on allyship and networking provided our students with essential knowledge they will take with them for years to come.
Beyond large group activities, students participated in “family groups” with students from various schools, enabling more intimate dialogue and sharing within smaller units. The conference’s theme, “Lifting As We Climb: Elevating Our Schools Through Love and Justice,” encapsulated the commitment to creating inclusive and equitable school communities – something that Charles Wright Academy values and sees as an essential piece of the Portrait of a Tarrier.
