Board of Trustees Update – August 2, 2024

August 02, 2024

Dear CWA Community,

Chris Gorycki, our new Interim Head of School, starts today. Welcome, Chris! A couple of Trustees had the opportunity to spend time with Chris when he arrived in Tacoma on Wednesday and it was obvious that he is excited to dive in and be part of the CWA community. His priority right now is meeting with faculty and staff, getting CWA ready for students, and “active, joyful learning” this fall. As we shared last week, Chris is all about accessibility and is looking forward to getting out and about on campus to meet and engage with members of the community.

More updates…

  • It was announced to faculty, staff, and current families on Wednesday that Rachel Rippl will be expanding her role at Charles Wright in a dual position as the Middle and Upper School Director. Rachel will report directly to Chris Gorycki, and Chris will ensure that Rachel has appropriate support to be effective in this expanded role. We are excited for Rachel and grateful for her past leadership and positive growth into this new academic year at CWA. Rachel has this to say about her role:

“As we prepare to launch the 2024-25 school year, I am excited to step into a new role as the Interim Middle and Upper School Director. I look forward to the work ahead and am confident in the mission and vision of our school as we continue to build our legacy as an educational leader in the South Sound. During my eighteen years at Charles Wright, I’ve had the privilege of building strong relationships with many of our students, families, and faculty. It is this foundation that will serve as one of our anchoring points, as we cultivate a rich community and engage in active, joyful learning together.”

  • Members of our community are invited and encouraged to take Reciprocity Consulting’s new online survey. This survey is designed for those who are unable to participate in listening sessions, but all are welcome to participate. Contact information is optional. These responses will be included in the summary of what was heard from the listening sessions overall. The data collected will help us understand our community as well as guide us in the search for the long-term head of school. This survey is scheduled to close on Friday, August 16, and the link will continue to be included in future updates. Thank you for taking time to share your thoughts and recommendations.

Please feel free to share this and future updates with anyone who might be interested in CWA happenings. Alumni and parents of alumni who aren’t receiving school communications but would like to may provide their updated contact information to the school. Alumni click here. Parents of alumni click here. As always, please feel free to contact us at feedback@cwatrustees.com with any comments, questions, or concerns.

Thank you for your continued support and patience as we move forward. Go Tarriers!

Sincerely,

The CWA Board of Trustees
