2025 Inspirational Faculty Award: Jennifer Kolbo

May 15, 2025

Each year, the Family Association has the honor of recognizing a teacher who brings the mission of Charles Wright Academy to life, not just in what they say, but in how they teach, how they lead, and how they care for our children. This year’s honoree is someone whose impact is felt deeply by students, families, and colleagues alike.

In her classroom, students are met with genuine warmth and an unshakable belief in their potential. One parent shared how their child, who has had some struggles with academics, now walks into school with confidence, not because everything is easy, but because this teacher celebrates small victories and offers support without judgment. That’s what compassion looks like in action: noticing the effort, not just the outcome, and showing up for each child with patience, positivity, and purpose.

Another parent told us their child began the year behind in reading and is now reading beyond grade level. They credit this transformation to the dedication and creativity this teacher brings into every lesson—the same kind of excellence that defines her work, every day. She doesn’t seek the spotlight—she just pours everything she has into helping children learn, and through that, their love of learning grows. But her work extends far beyond her own classroom. She’s been instrumental in shaping one of the most meaningful learning experiences in the Lower School: the first-grade farm-to-table unit. What began as a simple garden project is now a robust, year-long inquiry that weaves together science, writing, sustainability, and community partnerships. Because of her leadership, first graders are not only learning where their food comes from, they’re exploring farms, hosting farmers’ markets, and seeing themselves as part of something larger.

This year’s award recipient mentors new teachers, leads literacy efforts, and shows perseverance in ways most people aspire to. Through every email and parent communication, every carefully revised lesson, and every conversation with a student who just needs a little extra push, she makes CWA shine a bit brighter. One colleague said it best: she gives 110% to every student and every family who walks through her door. That kind of integrity, doing the right thing even when no one’s watching, defines who she is.

She is trusted, respected, and deeply loved.

Congratulations to this year’s Inspirational Faculty Award recipient: Jennifer Kolbo! Please join us in celebrating Jenn’s well-deserved recognition.
