July 19, 2024
After a national search, veteran independent school leader Christopher A. Gorycki was chosen by the Charles Wright Academy Board of Trustees to serve as a two-year Interim Head of School beginning Friday, August 2, 2024. “We are excited to welcome Chris to the Charles Wright Academy community. He brings vast experience from his work in helping other independent schools navigate change and set the stage for a long-term head of school’s success in 2026,” shared CWA Board Chair Adam Blakney.
Chris began his independent school career as a student at The Town School, a Pre-K through 8 school in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. He then attended Salisbury School in Connecticut as a four-year boarding student and finished his undergraduate degree at Long Island University. He went on to receive his master’s degree in Private School Leadership from Columbia University’s Klingenstein Center.
The Fenn School in Concord, Massachusetts, is where his professional educational career began 36 years ago. Starting first as a teacher and coach, he advanced to Director of Admissions and Financial Aid. He then pursued school leadership roles, first as Assistant Head of School at the Montgomery School in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, then as Head of the Kent School in Chestertown, Maryland. Some of the successful hallmarks during these years were:
-
Successful management of strategic initiatives, including achieving financial sustainability;
-
Campus improvements through renovations and building projects;
-
Raising academic standards through advancing curriculum, evaluation rubrics and professional development; and
-
Working with diverse teams of people to see plans through to their completion.
In 2016, Chris transitioned to Interim Headships. Prior to Charles Wright Academy, he was a two-year Interim Head at Cambridge Friends School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Gould Academy in Bethel, Maine, and Akiba Yavneh Academy in Dallas, Texas. “I am honored by the opportunity to serve as Charles Wright Academy’s Interim Head of School for the next two years,” said Chris. “During my time on campus I was deeply moved by the love everyone had for the school. Together we will capitalize on all of the great things that are in place at CWA and we will learn from our past to move forward with joy and enthusiasm. I look forward to seeing everyone on campus. Go Tarriers!”
Chris Gorycki’s tenure as Interim Head of School at CWA will conclude on June 30, 2026. Welcome, Chris!
